This old car alarm
A customer walked in the store the
other day and were were talking about car alarms... He proceeded to tell
me about a security system he built in the 50's to protect his (I think
he said 55 Chevy) ... Alarms were not really available in stores back
then so there were several ways to do the do-it-yourself starter kills
or whatever.... Listening to
this customer tell me about how he floated the hood of his car so he
could protect it by feeding the high voltage from an old model - T
ignition coil to it to shock the crap out of the bad guys that might
want to open the hood was pretty interesting.... But,
a little while later the customer came back into the store WITH THE OLD
ALARM! WOW....!! He actually saved it all these years....It
was really well built... Anyway he kindly let me photograph it so I
could share it with you here.
This is the main
module with the cover on it... See the little latches on it to
make it easy to take the cover off.. |

This is the
mounting bracket and the wire plug which makes it easy to remove
for service.. |
|
4 large relays.. |
|
this wooden box has
the old model T ignition coil in it.. (model t parts were
plentiful and cheap in the 50s when this security system was
built) |
|
Here is a cam and
the on off switches which rest on the cam turn the thing on and
off.. The cam is on a motor and acts as a timer so the system has
a cycle much like the alarms of today... |
